Jaguars addressing pass rush in draft
After recording a league low, embarrassing 14 sacks, the Jaguars must address their lackluster pass rush. Playing in the same division with the pass happy Colts and Texans, the Jags need to find a way to pressure opposing quarterbacks and defensive end is where to start.
The player which has been shooting up the draft charts in recent weeks is,
Jason Pierre-Paul from the University of South Florida. The 6’5″ 270 pound defensive end is projected in many mock drafts as the first DE selected this year. Pierre-Paul has only one real season of football behind him and only recorded 6.5 sacks in 2009. He also benefitted in a situation where teams double teamed his team mate George Selvie and Pierre-Paul was able to get free. Jason does show a lot of potential, but with only one season under his belt, I don’t think the Jags should use the #10 pick with just a boom/bust possibility.
The player that I think Jacksonville should select is,
Derrick Morgan. Junior, Georgia Tech. 6’3″ 266 pounds. Morgan was the ACC defensive player of the year. His career totals include 29 tackles for a loss, 19.5 sacks and 6 fumble recoveries. He posses good closing speed, great flexibility and good leverage. I believe Morgan makes much more sense at #10 for the Jags than Jason Pierre-Paul.
Middleton re-signed
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced they have agreed to terms with CB William Middleton. The 5’10″ 193 pound Furman product will not be competing for a starting position this year, but does add depth and excels on special teams.
