Lane was chosen in the 5th round, and plays defensive end. Jacksonville continues to rebuild a defensive line which was the worst in the league in 2009 and used 4 of their six selections this year to address that need. Lane recorded 29 career sacks in college along with 7 forced fumbles.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed 5th round draft selection DE Larry Hart. Terms have not been announced. Hart is the first of Jacksonville’s draft picks to sign this offseason.

Hart, 6’0″ 250 pounds, played two seasons for Central Arkansas where he recorded 21 sacks and 31 1/2 tackles for losses in his career.

Hart was part of the Jaguars focus in this years draft to remake the defensive line and create more pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Jacksonville only recorded 14 team sacks in 2009.

The Madden 2011 Jacksonville Jaguars player ratings have been released and while the Jags are suffering from a lack of attendance, key players got some good rankings from Madden.

WR Mike Sims-Walker received an 85 overall score. Walker is poised for a break out year and could be a steal in many fantasy drafts for 2010.

RB Maurice Jones-Drew scored a 96 overall rating as a running back, and that should come as no surprise to anyone who follows football. The man is a stud.

QB David Garrard didn’t receive as favorable a rating, coming in at 79. Garrard’s career is hanging in the balance I believe in the 2010 season.

The Jaguars highest rated defensive player was CB Rashean Mathis who has 28 career interceptions, entering his 8th year in the NFL at a player rating of 92.

As the Jacksonville Jaguars prepare to open training camp on July 29th, they made some moves on Wednesday by releasing 6 players, most notably DE Reggie Hayward. Hayward, 31, had played 4 seasons with the Jaguars recording 17.5 sacks with his time on the team. Hayward broke his leg in the first game of the 2009 season and missed the rest of the year.

The Jags also released OL Cameron Stephenson and 4 players who were undrafted free agents.

FB Ben Stallings, CB Chris Hawkins, WR Chris McGaha, and P Robert Malone.
